Bachelor Chow

I'm gonna be moving out again for school in less than a week and the odds are I will be eating a ton of gross food. I will probably also eat some good food too, but either way there will be food I'm making and eating that I want to share with people and this is the topic for that.

If you ever make something really gross or really good I encourage you to upload photos here too. Or if you just see a really gross picture of food on the internet and want to share it. I just made some beef stew with my mom (she is showing me how to use the slowcooker for when I move out) so when that's done cooking I'll share a photo here.

Bon appétit!

How's that stew coming along?

I don't think I'll be posting here often, but one time a fly landed in my drink, and I got plenty of photos and videos of that. I also did get the fly out. My school actually has a really great cafeteria, though a lot of it is lost on me because I'm a really picky eater, and they have fancy stuff all the time. I think I've seen a photo of someone eating mussels from there. How many schools serve mussels??

I did come to love the stuff they had for breakfast, though. I never had it except on the weekends though, because I ate too early for them to prepare the things. The best thing there was hash browns, and they were the kind in a puck-shape. They were sooo good.

Damn! You lucky dog, my school's cafeteria totally sucked... and I'm not a picky eater! Far from it, actually. At first I loved all the crappy cafeteria food they served (to the disgust and amusement of my friends) but after like six months of it I finally caved. It sucked. So bad. How early were you eating, anyways?

Oh, here is a picture of that stew (it was cooking in the garage so it wouldn't heat up the house [there is no AC in houses here]). We brought it in and added some seasoning/some flour to thicken the broth. We're gonna freeze it so I can take it with me to school.

(I spoiled the image cause it's so tall)
(I had to find custom BBcode and implement it just to spoil the image. Fun times are ahead!)
Spoiler!

Nice. At least I'm sure it's nice. Picky eating and all, it reminds me of leaves on the ground in Fall. And the stains on the slow cooker remind me of Nine Inch Nails album art. I'm sure if I smelled it, I would like the smell. For some reason I like the smells of more foods than the taste...

I was eating at 7:40 or so in the morning. That's on the weekdays at least, on the weekends the cafeteria didn't open until 8:30 I think, so I had to wait a little longer. But I guess that extra hour gave them enough time to get all the hot food ready (on weekdays I just ate cereal).

Is it the colours of the stew that remind you of Autumn? Or just the giant bay leaf floating on top? Hehe, I have a pretty awful sense of smell so I'm mostly in it for the taste. I can smell grease from a mile away, though.

Jeez, that's pretty late for the cafeteria to open. I had classes that started at 8:30am! Though I was usually eating at 8:00am, since the campus was small enough for me to get to the cafeteria at 8:00am, eat for fifteen minutes, then fast walk to class just in time. I just can't imagine waking up early enough to eat at 7:40am!

Oh, last minute edit, I added parsley to the top of the stew.

It is really the colors of the stew, yeah. And I had classes at 8:00am some days... ( ̄_ ̄|||)

Classes before the cafeteria opens? How inhumane! At least you won't be going back there for a really long time! If a week is a long time

Bachelor Chow: THE MIST

One time I went to taco bell and got a sierra mist, right. But they were OUT of the flavor syrup completely. And so I took a sip of this stagnant seltzer water and physically recoiled. No Sierra there. Just mist. Then, because I'm a fool, I decided to make a root beer float out of it. I combined it with this strawberry shortcake ice cream and the taste defied definition.

It's sitting on the riverbank edge with a book on your lap that you forgot to read and just staring at the current. It's bright doors in abandoned gas stations. it's an oil rig in texas and snow in march. It is none of these things. Imagine the halfway point between what i said and everything I didn't say. If you ate that. this was what it wouldn't taste like.

wow, THAT is a pretty pathetic comestible, thayle. that reminds me, the slurpee machine at the 711 near my house is out of order all the time. and it pisses me off cause it's like my childhood 711! i go there to get a slurpee and i remember that it's way more expensive than when i was a kid AND half the pumps are spitting out water. total bullshit :x

I could never really get slurpees. They're always really poor attempts at the flavor they're going for, and they happen to get worse because they melt and get watered down like 2 minutes after getting them.
If we're talking about gross food experiences this one morning recently I woke up and was still kind of high 'cause I had just smoked the night prior. I was super hungry and wanted to eat a bowl of cereal. I got halfway through the bowl before realizing that the cereal was expired and had been for 2 weeks. HAVEN'T EATEN CEREAL SINCE

Oh I just remembered I ate a bowl of cereal with lemonade replacing the milk once as a kid and it was also pretty bad (surprising, I know)

One time I had cereal with expired milk because i had already poured the milk and didn't want to waste it.... never again.

FUCK YOU WILL SLURPEES ROCK!!!!!! way better than every other derivative. slushies blow air up my asshole.

but actually i'm surprised! cause usually slurpees have a pretty good ice-to-flavour ratio when i get them, and they usually take a long time to melt! so long that i drink all the flavour out before it melts so i have some flavourless ice-mush at the bottom

Did you know that Slurpees and Icees are the same thing? I don't mean just as a difference of brands, they are the same product sold under different labels. Icee had a deal with 7 Eleven, but the owner of 7 Eleven thought "Icee" wasn't a hip enough name for kids to enjoy, so all Icees sold in 7 Eleven stores are named Slurpees.

I feel like I used to have worse luck with syrup-ice ratios when I was younger. Nowadays I don't feel like I have that many issues. Have I changed, or have they?

approx 2 years ago i wanted to try peanut pepsi really bad because i heard about it and was very fascinated with the concept of eating peanuts out of your pepsi while you drink it from the bottle. so i made this (pictured) but i drank it too slowly and the pepsi adopted a peanut flavour which was really unpleasant so i closed it and just let it sit in my room. it incubated for a month and the colour changed from dark brown to a deep red orange. when i finally approached it there was a noxious odour coming a sizable radius from the cap that made me feel nauseous so i sealed the entire top with duct tape and threw the whole bottle away. i have made/eaten horrible things before but this was the only time ive created a bomb so far

Jesus christ. This is a concoction beyond the wildest nightmares of many alchemists! I really don't want to think about what could have turned it orange...

This reminds me vaguely of my trick for root beer float without ice cream - I call it the ROOT BEER FOOLT. What you do is get root beer and pour a whole milk in it, then stir, then drink. It's like, honestly mid. It tastes like what I imagined creamy coffee would before I'd actually tried coffee.

that is interesting and that also reminds me. has anyone tried hot Dr Pepper or hot root beer?
in my opinion both are worth trying but hot dr pepper in my experience has a metallic and almost bloodlike aftertaste that is off putting to me as an average non vampiric citizen. hot root beer seems to provide all or most of the benefits of hot dr pepper while lacking the blood in your mouth. i have been thinking about warming up various other refrigerated drinks on the stove and maybe when the weather gets colder i could try things like powerade tea. or coca cola IDK anything could work...... .......whisky.............. ummm

i have! hot root beer in a frosted glass. it wasn't that good..... i tried doing it with our old pewter drinking horn, but i forgot that cold metal sticks and almost recreated the scene from a christmas story.

lots of things to be reminded of while reading this thread, wish i had joined sooner so i got a bit to say. sorry in advance
number 1. hasbrowns are fucking amazing. and, by proxy, anything potato-adjacent is amazing as well. hash browns, tater tots, french fries (i like when theyre soggy and floppy(it sounds weird to say but it makes sense! juicy flavorful (theyre also good when theyre normal too))), loaded potatoes with the bacon and cheese and shit, i dont think you could go wrong with potatoes.
number 2, one time i cooked ramen in mtn dew instead of water. i forgot how it tasted
number 3, when i was in elementary school i used to put cartons of milk in my backpack to drink for later. id always forget about them and id either slam my backpack on a wall or theyd naturally explode from heat and pressure building up and one day some chocolate milk fucking exploded all over this overdue library book, i never returned it. i think i still owe like 15 dollars to the school for that one
number 4, deacon DID say bachelor chow was for good food too, so thisll be my final addition.. my favorite piece of food in the entire world
forewarning: my spice tolerance is pretty good. so if the ingredients in this sound like theyd be too hot to stomach for you, they are. so that basically means im better than you
i dub my chicken sandwich "my chicken sandwich" (or surnachis chicken sandwich), i always try to get as many ingredients i can on it because most of the time as it turns out most restaurants dont carry all the ingredients. they are as follows:
buffalo HOT chicken patty. no medium, im not a pussy like you
jalapenos. the more the merrier, i put that shit on everything
bacon strips. always a plus in everything as well, i think
more jalapenos
a sunny side up egg. absolutely the fucking cherry on the cake here, eggs are fucking amazing
queso cheese or pepperjack cheese, preferrably pepperjack since its spicier (ive never had it with pepperjack though..)
tater tots on the side. i fucking love tater tots
the sandwich is always fucking big and spicy as fuck and GOOD AS HELL!! i love the hell out of it. the best place ive had it at is a texas only chicken restaurant, pluckers. i remember having the idea for it and ordering it there, and i think thats when i found out true love really is real. eating it with tears in my eyes and pain in my mouth, had to beg to go to pluckers every time we ate out because i could never get enough of that shit. ive had it at other places too, it was always hundreds of steps lower than how pluckers did it. now that i think about it, i might have had it somewhere else but i cant remember where, i just remembered it was pretty amazing there too
also i know im kind of making this post way too long, but i just wanna say that food is genuinely the best conversation topic for anyone ever. its universal! everyone has something to say about food and its always so enjoyable to talk about and hear what other people have to say about food! but thats all i got for now
