there are so many video games, youve probably played a few. but which ones did you have the most fun playing? or i guess not just the most fun, that's not the only metric "favorite" can be defined by. so just post which ones are your favorites, for any reason!!!
mine are risk of rain 2, Minecraft, and the pokemon franchise. i dont know if theres a linking factor but i sure do love those creatures

Obligatory shoutout to my favorite game to play, your mother.
Nah but for real: Hylics 2, Middens, Nuclear Throne, and *deep sigh* league of legends

My favorite game of all time is Lisa the Painful RPG. I can't put into words how much I love that game
Some other notable games that I really like are: Katana Zero, Hotline Miami, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Hypnospace Outlaw

Hypnospace Outlaw, Hylics 2, and Elden Ring are the easy picks for me. hypnospace and hylics were both absolutely incredible experiences (both suggested to me by thayle, shoutout thayle) but no game has ever gripped me the way elden ring has. I've got ~200 hours in it atm and i'm only two playthroughs deep!

I've been meaning to get Elden Ring. It's just too damn expensive! I have the money for it, I just don't know if I want to burn that big of a hole in my pocket already

yeah, it's definitely an investment in both time and money. make sure you've got a console or computer that can run it well, too! it's a beefy game. one of the best video gaming experiences i have ever had, though, i recommend every second of it.

Honestly, I think I've gotta shoutout my favorite games from when I was a kid before I shoutout games that I've been playing a ton of.
I was a
total Nintendo nut back in the day (and even now, honestly) so I'm gonna be shouting out a bunch of Wii games that I haven't played in ages, with some more recent games thrown in.
- Super Mario Galaxy (maybe favorite of all time)
- Kirby's Epic Yarn
- LEGO Star Wars The Complete Saga
- Minecraft
- DRAGON QUEST BUILDERS 2 (holy FUCK DQB2 is like. maybe my favorite game of all time. and i've NEVER seen anyone talking about it. y'all. YALL. DQB2222222222222)
- uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh trying to remember video games
- does club penguin count? lmao
- fuckin toontown online
- oooh wizard101 is a huge source of nostalgia
- trying to think of more video games but i just spent the last 20 minutes formatting my dqb2 article so my brain is fried
- SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2
- mario 3d world slaps too
- okay i'm just gonna click "post reply" lmfao

if i had to list my ABSOLUTE, all time favorites (i definitely want to keep this list terse), they would be:
-
kenshi (i like rimworld too, but the setting, exploration, and limitless charm of kenshi it cannot compare to)
-
cataclysm: dark days ahead (i really need to get back to playing project zomboid)
-
the ur-quan masters (and by extension, starflight)
-
pathologic (in all of its splendid forms)
-
worms: armageddon
-
hyper light drifter
- last but not least,
fear & hunger
these are all very very different games and really the only trend i can see among most of my favorite games is games that pay a lot of respect to the importance of ludonarrative (okay, in most cases at least) and a high learning curve, not traditionally "fun" in that sense, but mastering a game is extremely rewarding
i also can't really recommend all of these to everyone i meet, but im sure theres one or two games from this list that would strike anyone's fancy.
I've been meaning to get Elden Ring. It's just too damn expensive!
just "buy" it for free, elden ring is terrible online and its the one MP game that i actively recommend you dont engage with real people. people should say this more often, itd be a lot of money saved! that said, while i have some major gripes with the game overall it was a pleasant experience, just know that it takes a slightly beefier PC to run. if you get to it i hope you enjoy it

undertale (duh), psychonauts, terraria, minecraft, pretty much any rhythm game, a LOT of nintendo games, and so on
recently ive been getting back into SRB2. i think it may be the best sonic game out there, going through the levels is really damn fun even after the 900th time youre beating the game, and the music!!! definitely worth checking out if you like sonic. im only now realizing this whole paragraph looks fucking stupid with the signature i have on currently

ive been seriously loving disco elysium. on day... three, i think, last i left off? its such a different experience to all the other rpgs ive ever played, and it really does feel like the "game" parts of it serve the "roleplaying" parts immensely well, and the writing is just incredible. the game also feels like it rewards you very well for being curious about its world and characters- i started with encyclopedia as my signature ability, which is a whole lot of fun to have since i like exposition, and (spoilers incoming? unless you dont care about the lore- this isnt as much of a plot-relevant thing as far as i know)
► Show Spoiler
i had the best experience in my conversations with joyce messier, because the whole time i had been taking in all the worldbuilding, it became increasingly clear to me that every character and bit of narration was avoiding talking about the world itself- never had i heard the word "earth" or even the word "planet," and i was beginning to seriously question it! and so of course, when i finally succeeded that conceptualization check in joyce's reality lesson to ask her "what world is this?" i felt SO rewarded because that was the very question id been asking the whole time! of course, the reveal of the world's name itself was a very pleasant surprise, since id kinda been making that joke in my head the whole time
and
god joyce messier is hot. hello miss

i bought disco elysium recently cause a few people i know (mostly jack) seemed to like it. i lucked out cause the game was on sale for like 11 bucks, so im saving some schmoney. i guess i will have to add your testimony to the mounting pile of glowing testimonies! and hopefully i will be able to play it soon. school keeps me too busy to live.
i'm kind of worried cause it's like, a role-playing game. and i'm really awful at rpgs. i bought new vegas (it was on sale when i bought it, too. schmoney.) and i haven't really played it at all. every d&d session i've joined has resulted in failure. maybe disco elysium will buck the trend...

Outer Wilds.
I think its kind of a given to people that talk to me regularly outside of these forums but oh my god. Outer Wilds. It's the best fucking narrative game out there, if not the best game period. From the story, to the gameplay, the lore, the soundtrack (holy SHIT the soundtrack) to even just how amazing the atmosphere and technicality of how the entire game is put together is just fascinating. I finished it just about a month or so ago and i still cant stop thinking about it, it's that good. Definitively a good investment of time and money for anyone looking for a new experience. (though i say, PLEASE go in blind, or as blind as you can story-wise. It's the whole appeal of the game, even if saying that seems cheesy.)
The game also gets like, 300% better with the DLC, Outer Wilds Echoes of The Eye. I'm not gonna spoil it, but the whole game felt really complete and like nothing could ever top it, and then the DLC did that, it almost feels like it should belong in the base game. I URGE everyone to play these 2, they are one of my most favorite pieces of video game media ever.

i totally forgot to update on this! i ended up playing DE and loving it. it was as if i was infected by some disease that could only be cured by finishing the game! for three days it was the only thing i cared about. now, it's just a fond memory. for some reason, i wasn't inspired to draw any fan art. maybe because the world presented in the game was so complete that anything i could make would just feel tacked on. either way, PLAY THIS GAME NOW. and dont buy it like i did, pirate it.

Outer Wilds.
i think cole hacked your account, man. but seriously, it takes some convincing to get me to pick up a game. it was easy to ignore when it was just cole raving about the game (sorry, cole), but now that it's you and cole and jess and colin, it's kind of getting harder not to think about! maybe i will try it sometime.

well, i've been playing Fallout: New Vegas recently, and with what i've done in it, i'd say it's one of my favorites so far.
i based my character on a character within a videogame within a relatively old MSPFA. her
name is
Aba.
my S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats are reasonably generic and a bit stable. the intelligence is at 10 and the charisma is at 4. that, and other stuff that i forgot.
i really just made my character nerdy. so far, my best skill is science, which is great, because i've been getting used to laser/energy weapons in the game. other stats that i pay attention to are barter, repair, and recently, some of speech and energy weapons.
anyways, i love the number of choices that this game gives you. i seriously hope that there's a remaster in the making. or at least one that is already made. if it isn't obvious enough, i've been playing this completely vanilla, and have yet to try out DLC that i've heard is also good.
enough rambling... have any of you pals played any of the Fallout games before
i'm curious to know.

enough rambling... have any of you pals played any of the Fallout games before
i'm curious to know.
ive played:
through new vegas like 4 or 5 times,
some of fallout 1, but gave up because i was bad at it. that was in middle school though, so i should totally go back and get on that shit at some point.
some wacked out modded fallout 4 on a friend's xbox once. pretty fun experience and i did a good amount of the game's story just blasting through shit with op weapons and companions; one of my favorite weapons was a sword that was named "Isane Range" (sic) which as the name suggests for whatever reason allowed you to swing at enemies from like 50 meters, and my favorite companion was an assaultron companion i named like Amber or something or other. assaultrons are very cool, i like them. i did not like fallout 4s story very much.
a handful of hours of fallout 76. i actually, like the complete fool i was circa 2017 or whenever it was, preordered this game only to discover that it was absolute hell on the shitty laptop i had on the time- who wouldve guessed it?- so im not even sure i played for very long at all when the proper release came, i just did a couple play sessions in the closed beta. a couple months ago me and some friends entertained the idea of playing it again and we actually had some fun with it because we mostly just wandered the wasteland blasting shit. good time, but we didnt stick with it very long.
i consider new vegas to be "the bomb dot com," as it were. i still think its writing holds up incredibly well, and i wish that the game wasnt rushed like it was so that its more underdeveloped elements could shine... though that does remind me- when i played the game years ago (like, 5 years ago now) i didnt actually have the dlc and now i do after buying it all on steam for like 2 bucks one day in like 2021, so i should totally go through and play all those. theyre actually on my big list of media to consume, but the "video games" section of that list has basically been the most unmoving part of it. a lot of the time when i have free time to play games i'll just prefer to boot up a multiplayer game rather than something with a story. it takes me being in just the right headspace! hopefully i'll find that time for the fnv dlc at some point.
though, it seems i have been in the right headspace for ONE specific game this season... and thatd be armored core 6. it's my first armored core game, (and my first fromsoft game ive played for more than an hour, for that matter. i should totally pick up sekiro again now that i own a controller though.) so im far from worried about how it compares to earlier games and have just been really fuckin enjoying it. i was worried about hitting a difficulty wall and then just bouncing off of the game and never picking it back up again, but hard fights ended up just motivating me more to keep at them and learning how to beat them, and the game offers plenty to do aside from progressing your main missions since you can replay missions for money to play around with your build, OR to go back and find secret challenging fights that get you special mech parts, and once you beat chapter 2, you get pvp, which is a whole lot of fun, if a bit challenging sometimes when your friends already have new game plus plus gear. who cares about that though, the best part of nest is being able to throw off all your weapons and go for a bareknuckle mech brawl in the middle of a sweltering desert.
another thing that helps me from getting burnt out on the game is that the whole thing's divided into discrete missions instead of being an open-world deal like a lot of really big games are these days, so you can just finish a mission and be done with it if you want to be. i cant handle that open world shit anymore! am i, in my old age, growing too scared of the great outdoors, perhaps? afraid ill trip on a rock and bust my shins? iunno man. mechs are cool. ive been real excited for this game ever since it was announced last year, since it came at the exact time i was getting really into mech stuff (well, i started getting into mech stuff around october of 2021, so i was actually a little earlier to the party.)
and since this IS the
favorite games thread, ill put in a sneaky shoutout to my current definitive number 1 favorite game to cap off this incredibly overly-long post... (can you blame me? its been a whole half a year since ive checked this forum, we have a lot of catching up to do!)
corru.observer.
its something best experienced first and discussed later!
