Favourite musicians? Recent listens?
Been re-discovering some of the awesome producers I stumbled onto during my lo-fi hip-hop phase. Currently absolutely jamming out to Esbe's work, especially Winter Solstice, which is like a song from an alternate universe version of DJ Shadow's best album, Endtroducing. When the big crunchy beat slides in I get a little bit wacky!

whenever i think of favs, i always come back to Tom Waits. While he's much more known for his carnie barker schtick in later albums, my favourite of his has always been Nighthawks at the Diner-- a studio album with a live audience of about 30 people being served drinks and snacks, under the pretense of being a late-night show at a scrappy diner called "Raphael's Silver Cloud Lounge." Waits leans hard into his lounge balladeer/down-and-out grifter persona, spinning song after song and tale after tale of pure gold.
FAVOURITE TRACK:
Putnam County (+ Intro to Putnam County)
In this track, Waits guides the audience through a soporific night in small-town america, detailing all the layabouts and oldtimers along the way. If any song makes me excited about getting old and having my life stagnate before my eyes, it's this one. "Leaving the little joint winking in the dark warm narcotic American night" is a line that particularly sticks with me.
give it a listen!

put this on in the background just now while i'm cleaning my room, i'm liking it so far!GargleGoyle wrote: ↑Wed Aug 31, 2022 3:08 am I've been super into this one old rap group called Slum Village. I've been listening to their Fantastic Vol. 2 album
i've been diving back into the apples in stereo! i just listened to their first album, fun trick noisemaker (which i'd somehow avoided until now), and it's pretty great! notably, it lacks the heavy synth use that's present in all their albums i've listened to. it also lacks the professional edge of all their later albums... or maybe it's just the lack of synths that make it sound like that. i dunno! but it's interesting is what i'm getting at.
my fave songs on the album are lucky charm, glowworm, and show the world
Shookum Hip RALLO Dine!

Though not really my favourite, recently i've been really into Butchers harem, mainly the only album avaliable on spotify, Erotic stories written in blood. It's a tad morbid, but the beats and general flow of the songs are really good! And i enjoy how experimental/hip-hop sounding some songs are, with the heavy instruments and the brutal vocals. It tickles my brain fancy

TNT by Tortoise is another one of those albums that i grew up listening to all the time but am really only now coming back to. Post-rock has always been sort of a weird and confusing genre to me, namely due to its fairly nebulous definition, but out of all the post-rock ive grown up listening to this one always stood out the most!
The title track, TNT, is fine enough - in fact, it is really quite good - but just a little later come Ten-Day Interval and I Set My Face To The Hillside, the two most standout tracks on the album in my opinion. give it a listen if youve got time! i find it's excellent driving music.

Re: Favourite musicians? Recent listens?
i feel like i've just been becoming a stereotype of myself lately, cause all i'm listening to is 90's/00's rock. i can't help it! i am a sucker for songs about how hard it is to be a teenager, even though i guess i'm 20 now. and also i can track my listening history since i downloaded lastfm and it's winamp compatible, and my listening history is really embarrassing. it's like, bowling for soup, will wood, and american football. what kind of listening history even is that. anyways listen to in too deep by sum 41 which is my fave atm:
